Protection of Your Confidential Account Information

At Sangre De Cristo Electric Association, we’ve always been in the business of taking care of our consumers. When we recently fell under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act mandated by the Federal Trade Commission, we took the opportunity to review our existing confidentiality policy and to look at all aspects of our business where we could improve the protection of confidential information.

We recently contracted with a credit reporting company to help us verify identity on new and existing accounts and to protect our customers from identity theft from our billing system. This agency makes only a “soft” inquiry on your credit, so your credit rating is not impacted. When you call to open a new account or get information about an existing account, we will verify your identity by asking for some basic information. If we can’t verify your identity on the phone, you will be asked to present identification at our office before we establish a new account or provide information about an existing account.

The process to set up a new account or get information about an existing account may take a little bit more time, but we have implemented these policies to protect your identity from being compromised. Amid world-wide concern about identity theft, your cooperative continues to protect your confidential information.
