Attention High School Juniors!
CEEI COOPERATIVE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP
How does spending a week in northwest Colorado this summer with 80 of your peers from Wyoming, Kansas and Colorado sound? You could be a participant in the Colorado Electric Education Institute's (CEEI) Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp offered through Sangre De Cristo Electric Association, Inc. (SDCEA). Imagine meeting other students in Glen Eden, Colorado while learning about the electric utility business. You will learn about the cooperative way of doing business and issues surrounding the electric utility industry; experience how our government works; and discuss current issues with state congressional representatives. You'll follow coal from the mine to the power plant, seeing how it is converted to electricity; participate in a chemistry demonstration and computer energy simulation exercise with professors from the U.S. Air Force Academy; and learn about the potential benefits and dangers of electricity. All of this while you are a member/owner of a cooperative set up for the week. Most importantly, you will make friends to last a lifetime! While the trip is billed as an educational experience, you will be entertained with a pizza party at the hot springs pool, a dance, barbeque, volleyball tournament and other fun activities throughout the week. Can you think of a better way to spend a week this summer?
The opportunity to participate is open to all area high school juniors whose parent or guardian is a member of SDCEA. SDCEA may sponsor a student(s) to attend the CEEI Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp. The trip is an all-expense-paid trip. The CEEI Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp allows students to see first-hand how a cooperative works through participation on either the board of directors or one of the committees that plan the week's activities. Everyone gets to participate and learn. Adult counselors chaperone and facilitate the week's activities.
