Rate Changes Begin July 1
PrintSDCEA is moving to a new rate structure on July 1. You will see this change reflected on your August bill.
The new billing structure balances out a reduction in energy rates from $0.14370 per kilowatt- hour to $0.13026 per kWh, with the addition of a $2.50 per kilowatt demand charge. Thus, it doesn’t increase or decrease overall revenue for the cooperative. This change is designed to help members better manage their electricity bills by giving them more control over how and when they use energy. At the same time, it helps the cooperative manage the costs of meeting peak energy demand, ensuring a fairer and more efficient system for everyone.
The peak demand charge is based on each member’s highest 1-hour energy need (kW) during peak hours — 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday — within the monthly billing cycle. Most residential accounts have a demand reading between 3 and 5 kW.
