SDCEA’s renewable energy is supplied primarily through our wholesale supplier, Tri-State Generation and Transmission, which contracts for hydro, solar and wind-generated power from renewable energy producers.
Members who elect to purchase renewable energy are charged a monthly surcharge on their electric bill for each 100-kWh block of renewable energy.
While the cost of renewable energy decreased in recent years, renewable generation is still more expensive than traditional power generation sources. SDCEA will bill a monthly 40 cent surcharge for each green block a member chooses to purchase.
A member may sign up for any number of blocks but must commit for a minimum of one year.
