SDCEA board of directors meeting September 24, 2025

The SDCEA board held a shortened meeting followed by a full-day educational workshop.

Wholesale Energy Supply Notice: On September 10, SDCEA received notice from Tri-State Generation and Transmission that they will be implementing at 7.5% increase in 2026. The board decided to shift the discussion originally listed under action items to an informational session. During the informational session, SDCEA’s CFO provided the Board and members in attendance with a presentation of SDCEA’s current rates along with a proposal on how to allocate these increased costs from Tri-State. In addition to the Tri-State increase, the need for a small increase was also presented to meet increased operating costs at SDCEA. The topic will be considered by the board at the October meeting.

Budget Item: The board approved a resolution to amend the Retirement Security Plan for a reduction to the 2026 budget.

SDCEA Townhouse: The board approved a resolution to move forward the sale of a townhouse owned by SDCEA in Buena Vista, once used for employee housing.

Chief Operations Officer: Ryan Doke was introduced as Chief Operations Officer at the cooperative, a promotion earned from the Operations Manager position he previously held.

CEO Report: Jon Beyer reported on an upcoming press release notifying the membership of SDCEA’s plans to take an inventory of trees within the city boundaries of Buena Vista near the cooperative’s primary overhead power lines.

Beyer reported on the recently energized Love’s EV Charging station located in Buena Vista.

SDCEA will be hosting a legislative round-up with area state legislators in November.

Rate Information Workshops: SDCEA will host rate information workshops 9 a.m. Oct. 9 at the SDCEA Community Room in Buena Vista and at noon, November 13 in Westcliffe, at Cliff Lanes, 25 Main St. Members are welcome to attend.

Next board meetings: The next regular meetings will take place Oct. 22 and Nov. 21 in the SDCEA Board Room, Buena Vista. The December 17 meeting will be held in Westcliffe, with the location yet to be determined.
