Taya Martinez Named Colorado Youth Leadership Council Representative Alternate

Every year, 1 student from each state is chosen for the Youth Leadership Council, a leadership program run by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. While visiting Capitol Hill during the Youth Tour in June, 12 Colorado students ran for the position by giving 2-minute speeches about why they would be the best person for the job.

Holli Johnson from San Miguel Power was elected to represent Colorado, and Taya Martinez from Sangre de Cristo Electric was selected to be the alternate.

Youth Leadership Council representatives will spend a full year learning how to be better leaders, public speakers, and communicators. They will also learn how electric cooperatives and energy companies work.

Experience on the YLC will culminate at NRECA’s PowerXchange conference in San Diego, California, February 12 through February 17, 2027, where national leaders will celebrate their hard work.
