Developer/operator named for project

Sangre de Cristo Electric Association, Inc. (SDCEA) is pleased to announce the Board of Directors’ approval of juwi, Inc. to construct and operate a solar facility in the company’s service territory.

juwi (pronounced U-E)  has proposed up to a 2.5 megawatt utility-scale solar project to be located on the grounds of the Buena Vista Correctional Facility. The solar project, which will be called  “Trout Creek Solar” will bring long-term, renewable energy to SDCEA at a cost-effective price.  SDCEA selected juwi through a competitive process.

Trout Creek Solar will supply renewable energy to SDCEA through a power purchase agreement, where juwi will construct and operate the solar facility and SDCEA will purchase the power produced at the site.

juwi is an international company with a Boulder- based subsidiary. juwi has completed more than 420 megawatts of projects in the United States. It has a strong relationship with Tri-State Generation and Transmission (Tri-State), SDCEA’s power provider, having constructed the 38 megawatt San Isabel Solar project north of Trinidad in 2016.

“juwi’s overall expertise, relationship to Tri-State and competitive pricing makes juwi a highly-qualified team member to develop the Trout Creek Solar project and supply the renewable energy to SDCEA,” Chief Executive Officer Paul Erickson said.

The Trout Creek Solar project is planned to be online by the end of 2018.
