SDCEA Awards 16 Scholarships to Local Students for 2023 to 2024 School Year

As a locally controlled not-for- profit, SDCEA reinvests back into our communities

Sangre de Cristo Electric Association proudly supports our communities by awarding scholarships to local students. This spring, the organization awarded 16 scholarships to graduating seniors in the region for the 2023 to 2024 school year, including one 4-year scholarship for $2,000 a year, 13 one-time $2,000 scholarships including one employee-dependent award, and two $1,000 scholarships.

“We serve our members through programs like our scholarship program. Being a locally controlled not-for-profit allows us to reinvest back into our communities. Supporting the next generation of leaders is one way we do this,” said SDCEA Interim Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly.

The scholarship committee, consisting of SDCEA directors and staff, evaluates applications and awards scholarships in February each year. Each committee member independently reviews application information which has been redacted for personal identifying information before it is then discussed and decided as a team. The chosen applicants are judged based on criteria set by the scholarship committee.

These scholarships can be used by any full-time student attending an accredited 2 or 4-year college, university or vocational/ technical school who is either an SDCEA member or dependent of a member. Students who have applied for or received scholarships in previous years are also eligible to apply if they meet eligibility criteria. Applications for these scholarships can be found on the SDCEA website each fall season.
